Point Defiance Tap and Grill

by Tom Hume

My daughters and I love going to breakfast. We have tried most of the breakfast places in Tacoma and therefore consider ourselves discerning diners.

So this past weekend, Brette (13) and I tried Point Defiance Tap & Grill in Ruston. They serve brunch 10-2pm on weekends. The ambiance is contemporary with lots of natural daylight. The service was friendly. Kevin took our orders, made my coffee (Valhalla, no less!) and educated us about the restaurant. It is locally owned. Furthermore, they source all of their food, beer and wine locally. I noticed the ketchup was not your run of the mill Heinz or Hunt’s. I asked Kevin about that. He said they make all of their own sauces. They do not have a freezer since they do everything fresh. For example, French fries are a whole potato until they are cut and fried on the spot.

I ordered my breakfast off the sides menu; rosemary potatoes and bacon. Brette opted for the caramel french toast. We were both pleased with our meals because they were nicely presented and delicious.

Brette’s Verdict

I asked Brette her impression of Point Defiance Tap and Grill.

“It’s good,” she replied.

“What do you like about it?”

“It’s clean and they have caramel French toast.”

In conclusion, If you are on the hunt for breakfast in Tacoma, you owe it to yourself to give Point Defiance Tap and Grill a try, because it is clean and they have caramel French toast. They are at 5101 N Pearl St. Tacoma, WA 98407   Website
